🌿 Traditional Use

No traditional use — entirely modern. Underground therapists used it extensively in the late 1970s and early 1980s for couples therapy, trauma work, and addiction treatment before it was made Schedule I in 1985. The therapy pioneer Ann Shulgin described sessions as producing 'three years of therapy in one afternoon.'

🔬 Research Status

Phase 3 clinical trials by MAPS for PTSD. FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation. Approved in Australia (2023). FDA advisory committee voted against approval in 2024 due to trial design concerns — additional Phase 3 trial in progress.
